The objectives of the program was to address major issues of financial management and accounting in the context of the public (government) sector accounting and financial management.
The program was based on accounting, financial management and Public Administration. It was essentially a course in accounting and public finance policy, that focused on resource and financial management issues facing the Public sector. The program covered the differences in management between the public and private sectors and the accounting systems that are required to be adapted to suit each environment to provide good financial information. Lectures primarily covered the broad theoretical and conceptual background to the issues, and specific aspects of the government environment and accounting standards. Practical examples and case studies pertaining to Maldives were an integral part of the course.
